Making the Connecticut River Safe and Clean
An outdated sewage treatment plant up the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts is responsible for millions of gallons of raw sewage being dumped into the river each time after heavy rains. This raw sewage flows right now through Enfield. It's a serious public safety and environmental problem.
This problem is not simply a Federal one or a Massachusetts one. Nothing will get done to fix this if everyone sits around pointing fingers and placing blame. Collaboration needs to occur between Connecticut, Massachusetts and Federal leaders in order to solve this. Funding ideas for sewage mitigation techniques will only be developed through a collaborative approach with all relevant stakeholders. Tom will bring all of the stakeholders together to solve the problem.
And you can't say the problem is unsolvable. Recently, Connecticut implemented a state bonding project to modernize sewage processing infrastructure so that to stop flooding and sewage discharge for residents by the Connecticut River in the North End of Hartford. If Hartford and the State of Connecticut can solve the North End problem then we can solve the problem up here in Enfield. All we need is a state representative who wants to get the job done.
John Santanella refuses to address this problem. He does not care that millions of gallons of raw sewage continuously flows down the river through our town. If he cared about environmental safety in his district, or just had any self-pride as a state representative for that matter, then he would work to solve this problem. He doesn't care because this river problem doesn't personally affect him as he lives in his house up the hill away from the river. John's refusal to engage with this issue shows that he does not care for the wellbeing of all of his constituents. Enfield deserves better than this, and they will get better when Tom is elected.
